Arches National Park is everything the name implies. With over 2,000 of the majestic arched rock formations, including the famous Delicate Arch, there is no better place on the planet to see so many arches in a single location. You also can’t beat it for its horseback riding and stargazing. The park is next to the city of Moab, keeping you fairly close to civilization and a plethora of campgrounds and travel accommodations.
If crowds get on your last nerve, head the toy hauler in the other direction for remote Stansbury Island. Windy, rugged conditions and isolation aren’t for everybody, so you might have the place all to yourself. It’s a great spot for bringing ATV’s for an off-roading adventure. Photographers appreciate the breathtaking views of Great Salt Lake. Best of all, camping is free.
Little Grand Canyon is another lesser-known spot. Count on jaw-dropping views, plenty of hiking, as well as activities on the river. If you are looking to float the San Rafael River, you’ll have to time your trip for the peak snow melt in late spring or early summer. Note that there are plenty of pull-offs for daytime use, and overnight camping is fairly limited but available.
